Education: Jane obtained a Master’s degree in Education from Boston University in 1996 and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 2002. Since 2005 Jane has been a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the state of Missouri and is also licensed as a specialist clinical social worker (LSCSW) in the state of Kansas. Jane maintains her credential as a registered play therapist – supervisor through the Association of Play Therapy. She is a certified EMDR Therapist and uses this modality with people of all ages. Jane possesses Level 2 certification in AutPlay; and, has completed Level 1 training in Theraplay. Jane possesses specialized training in working with women who have perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
Experience: In her career of over 20 years, Jane has helped people of all ages from age 2 to 72 improve personal and relational well-being. Jane owns A Balanced Life LLC where she, along with her team of clinicians continue to help people of all ages at all life stages. Jane currently provides therapy to children, adults, and couples who have experienced trauma; or, who are dealing with significant life stressors causing current distress in interpersonal relationships, family life, and professional life. Jane also has depth of experience working with school-aged children with behavioral problems, many of whom have histories of developmental trauma, anxiety, and neuro-developmental problems. Jane is an independent facilitator of the Love and Logic curricula and uses other evidenced-based parent training materials. Preferred trauma-informed therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR therapy, expressive arts therapy, play therapy, and sand tray therapy. Jane utilizes Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples and is currently pursuing certification in EFT. She enjoys facilitating a monthly perinatal support group that incorporates expressive arts interventions.
Jane provides clinical supervision to LMSWs seeking licensure in Kansas and/or Missouri, as well as to clinicians seeking to become registered play therapists. She has been a field instructor for the School of Social Work at UMKC and Park University. Jane has provided presentations on play therapy and working with children who have experienced trauma for the Lee’s Summit School District, Park University, and Truman Medical Centers.
Additional Information: Jane has been a member of the National Association for Social Workers since 1999 and a member of the Association for Play Therapy since 2011. Additionally, Jane is a member of EMDR International Association. She serves on the Pregnancy and Postpartum Resource Center’s Board of Directors and provides training in the KC metropolitan area and states of Missouri and Kansas on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), screening for PMADs, and Perinatal Support Group facilitator training.
