Play Therapy Certificate Program

Program Description: The Play Therapy Certificate Program provides 150 hours of play therapy training. The program is facilitated through ten 15-hour workshops. The program meets once a month for ten months. The workshop takes place over two days, Friday from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Professional Program Fee: $3,500.00

Deposit: A $350 deposit reserves your seat in the program and must be received prior to the first workshop.  The deposit is applied towards the student’s first month payment.  Each payment thereafter is due on the first day of each month.

Payment Options:

  1. Full Payment: Tuition is paid in full at the start of the program. Students who decide to pay in full at the beginning of the program are provided with a 5% discount on the total tuition fee.  Payment may be made by cash, check, credit card or PayPal.
  2. Monthly Payments:  Tuition is paid in 10 equal monthly payments of $350. Payment is due on the first day of each month of the student’s program.  The program deposit will be applied as the first month payment. Payment may be made by cash, check, credit card or PayPal.

Graduate Student Program Fee:    $2,750.00 (proof of enrollment required)

Workshop Reschedule:

  • If a student is not able to attend a workshop due to a schedule conflict, a written reschedule request should be submitted by email to [email protected] no later than 7 calendar days prior to the date of the workshop the student will not be able to attend.  When the request is submitted 7 days prior to the date of the workshop, the student will be eligible to attend the same workshop when offered by Heartland Play on another date.  The student will have 18 months to make-up the workshop or request a refund.  If the student has not completed the workshop within 18 months of the missed workshop no refund will be provided.
  • Withdrawal requests that are submitted after 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled workshop date will result in $50 administrative fee.  Once the administrative fee is paid, the student will be eligible to attend the same workshop when offered by Heartland Play on another date.  The student will have 18 months to make-up the workshop or request a refund.  If the student has not completed the workshop within 18 months of the missed workshop no refund will be provided.
  • If a student does not attend a workshop and does not submit a reschedule request as outlined in the previous sections by the time the workshop concludes, a refund of the paid workshop fee (professional $350, student $275) will be provided – with the exception of a $100 administrative fee.

Program Cancellation:  Cancellation requests should be submitted by email to [email protected] no later than 10 calendar days prior to the first scheduled workshop date in order to receive a full refund of paid program fees.  Cancellation requests that are submitted after 10 calendar days prior to the first scheduled workshop date will result in a refund of paid program fees – with the exception of a $75 administrative fee.

Program Withdrawal:  Withdrawal requests should be submitted by email to [email protected] no later than 10 calendar days prior to the next scheduled workshop date in order to receive a full refund of paid program fees for workshops the student has not yet attended.  Withdrawal requests submitted after 10 calendar days prior to the next scheduled workshop date will result in a refund of paid program fees for workshops the student has not yet attended – with the exception of a $75 administrative fee.

Workshop Cancellation:  Heartland Play reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to inclement weather, instructor illness or instructor family emergency.  If a workshop is canceled, students will be notified via e-mail prior to the workshop start time.  Heartland Play will notify the students of a reschedule date for the workshop within 10 calendar days of the cancelled workshop.

Workshop Certificate Replacement:  Heartland Play will provide a certificate for participants at the end of each workshop.  It is the participant’s responsibility to pick up and keep track of the certificate.  Heartland Play can provide a replacement certificate if the original is lost for a fee of $5 per certificate.  To obtain a replacement certificate please submit your request by email to [email protected] with the workshop name, date and location.  Payment for the replacement certificate is made by mailing a check to Heartland Play.  Once payment is received, the certificate will be delivered as a pdf through email.

Continuing Education Workshops

Program Description: A continuing education workshop provides information and exercises designed to meet the identified workshop objectives during a designated number of training hours.

Professional Workshop Fee:

15 Hour Workshop = $350.00

6 Hour Workshop = $125.00

3 Hour Workshop = $75.00

Graduate Student Workshop Fee (proof of enrollment required) :

15 Hour Workshop = $275.00

6 Hour Workshop = $125.00

3 Hour Workshop = $75.00

Payment Options: Payment is due ten days prior to the date of the workshop unless special accommodations are made with Heartland Play.  Payment can be made by cash, check, credit card or PayPal.

Workshop Withdrawal: 

  • Withdrawal requests should be submitted by email to [email protected] no later than 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled workshop date in order to receive a full refund of the paid workshop fee. Withdrawal requests that are submitted after 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled workshop date will result in a refund of the paid workshop fee – with the exception of a $50 administrative fee for a 2-day workshops and a $25 administrative fee for 1-day  workshops.
  • If a student does not attend a workshop and does not submit a withdrawal request as outlined in the previous sections by the time the workshop is concluded, within 5 business days Heartland Play will issue a refund of the paid workshop fee – with the exception of a $100 administrative fee for 2-day workshops and a $50 administrative fee for 1-day workshops.

Workshop Cancellation:

  • Heartland Play reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to insufficient enrollment.  Heartland Play will email workshop students at least 5 calendar days in advance of the scheduled workshop date to notify students of the cancellation.  Notice will be provided with the option to reschedule for a future course date or to receive a full refund of paid workshop fees.

Disclaimer: In all instances of withdrawal or cancellation, the liability of Heartland Play is limited to refunding the paid program fees when the student is eligible for a refund. Heartland Play Therapy has the right to amend these policies at any time and will provide students with an updated copy of amendments within 30 days of such changes. Grievance Policy

Should a student have a complaint and related to Heartland Play Therapy Institute’s workshops or business practices, the student should contact Heartland Play at 913-795-0396 or submit their complaint in writing by email to [email protected] or by mail to 8826 Sante Fe Drive, Suite 205, Overland Park, KS 66212.

When a complaint, either verbal or written, is filed with Heartland Play the following guidelines are followed with respect to achieving resolution:

  1. Complaints relative to an instructor, contents of instructional materials being presented, or an individual educational style being utilized, the individual voicing disapproval is requested to first address concerns to the instructor. If the instructor is not available, the complainant should place his/her comments in writing. Carmy Goodwin, CE Program Administrator and Co-owner of Heartland Play, will convey these comments to the instructor.
  2. If the complaint concerns a continuing education activity, its content, level of presentation, or facilities in which the event is being held, Carmy Goodwin will attempt to resolve the matter as expeditiously as possible. If the offered resolution is not satisfactory to the individual filing the complaint, the complainant may file a written appeal to the attention of the Owners of Heartland Play Therapy Institute. The program’s Co-owners, Carmy Goodwin, Amber Johnson and Lori Peterson, will then review the written complaint. A written response will be issued within 30 days of receipt of the written complaint. The decision of the Owners is final.
  3. Possible complaint resolutions include, but are not limited to, changes made to workshop materials, feedback provided to instructor regarding presentation style, facility concerns addressed with facility management, credit provided for future course or full or partial refund of workshop fees.  Complaint resolution will be determined by the Owners.

Confidentiality & Security Policy

Heartland Play Therapy Institute uses commercially reasonable protections to safeguard your personal information. These measures are intended to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of the information under our control; however, Heartland Play Therapy Institute cannot guarantee that our security measures will prevent parties (such as “hackers” or other bad actors) from illegally obtaining or misusing your personal information.

Although Heartland Play Therapy Institute takes reasonable security measures to protect your personal information, Heartland Play must interact with third party servers and systems (for example, to process your transactions). Heartland Play strives to work with only reputable third party vendors to provide those services, yet Heartland Play is not responsible for any acts or omissions of third party vendors.
