Education: Theresa has a BSW in Social Work from Florida State University. She completed her MSW at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Theresa also hold the credential of Registered Play Therapy-Supervisor. She has extensive training in regards to children and loves to work with individuals healing from trauma and sexual abuse. Theresa has completed training in the following: Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT); numerous trainings on working with children and teens that identify as transgender; Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT); EMDR; Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics Level One training; Gottman Marriage Therapy Level One.
Experience: Theresa has worked in many fields of social work including: Children’s Division, Mental Health, and Domestic Violence. She has been a Director for a community mental health agency for 8 years working with children’s mental health and supervising outpatient therapists. Theresa has worked as a school counselor, private practitioner for two years and teacher as an adjunct instructor at the University of Central Missouri. Currently, Theresa works at Research Psychiatric Hospital providing crisis assessments primarily via telehealth. She also works as a contract therapist and licensure supervisor for Social Work.
As a therapist, Theresa brings with her a lot of training but also her own personal experiences. She was active duty Air Force for 4 years and then active Reserve for several years. Additionally, Theresa has been married to a military man for 30 years, making her very familiar with the trials and tribulations that military members and military families experience. Theresa also has a child that has shown me how to love and what it means to be authentically you by sharing with us that she is transgender. Theresa has a passion for making families stronger.
